April 2022: This program has been suspended due to the sale of Lone Tree Scout Reservation. We are evaluating how we can support the camp in the future. Thank you for your support over the years.

UPDATE: In January 2023, the Lone Tree Spirit Foundation Executive Committee voted to continue the Lone Tree Beaver Program to permit reimbursement of camp fees (up to $100) for units who perform a service project for a camp in New Hampshire or Eastern Massachusetts. Please note the FAQ and program description have not been update since the full details of the program have not been finalized.

More details to follow as they become available.

UPDATE: On April 14, 2023, The Lone Tree Spirit Foundation Executive Committee voted to modify the Lone Tree Beaver Program such that pictures are no longer required. Units requesting reimbursement must get confirmation from the camp staff that they completed a conservation projection.

The Lone Tree Beaver Award

Camp at Lone Tree for FREE!!

The Lone Tree Beaver Award is an award that a unit earns together during a weekend trip to Lone Tree Scout Reservation.  By simply practicing “Leave No Trace” principles, leaving your campsite better than you found it, and performing a short but meaningful conservation or service project during your weekend stay, each participating unit member can earn the Lone Tree Beaver patch and receive a refund of up to your unit’s entire weekend cabin or campsite rental fee paid to the council.  All Scouting BSA unit types, both inside and outside Spirit of Adventure Council, are eligible. Just review the requirements on the form found HERE, discuss your project with the campmaster or ranger when you arrive in camp, and submit the form with the requested attachments and your refund will be on its way.

Be sure to print and bring the Lone Tree Beaver form, found HERE, to your event.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I book a weekend at Lone Tree?

A:  All reservations and payments for campsites, cabins, and other facilities at Lone Tree Scout Reservation are done through the Spirit of Adventure Council, BSA.  CLICK HERE to be directed to their reservations website.

Q: How much of our campsite or cabin rental fee will we get back?

A: If the unit has complied with the requirements of the award, and filled out the form completely, you should get your entire fee reimbursed to your unit by the Lone Tree Spirit Foundation.  If there is information missing, you are missing a signature or proof of completion, or the level of completion is questionable, LTSF will make a judgment call.  Usually no less than half of the campsite or cabin rental fee will be reimbursed for a good effort.

Q: How big is the conservation or service project?  Do we have to bring tools?

A: Typically something your unit can complete in an hour or two with the number of youth and adults that you have in camp that weekend.  Any tools and materials will be provided by the camp or LTSF.  You can discuss the scope of the project with the ranger, camp-master, or an LTSF board member in camp that weekend or discuss the project with them ahead of time.  There will be a list of projects to chose from.  If you have a special project you would like to do, that’s possible too.

Q: How long will it take our unit to get reimbursed for the cost of our reservation at camp and get our patches?

A: You should receive a check from the foundation within 30 days of us receiving a completed form.  Please keep in mind we are an all volunteer non-profit.  We will do our best to turn that check around ASAP.  Patches may be available at the weekend OR they will be sent to you.

Q: Who will get a patch?

A: Everyone who participated in earning the award while you were at camp.  Make sure to fill in all the information on the form so we can send you the right number of patches.

Q: Who should fill out the form?

A:  The Youth Leader for the weekend of course!  SPL, Crew President, etc.  A little adult coaching may be appropriate.  For cub packs, it is fine to have an adult fill out the form.  Please make sure we have an adult’s contact info on the form in case we have questions.  As a chartered partner with the BSA, LTSF follows youth protection guidelines.  LTSF will not contact any youth members directly with questions.

Q: What kind of units can participate?  Do we have to be from Spirit of Adventure Council?

A: All types of BSA units are eligible:  Packs, Troops, Crews, Posts, and Ships can all participate.  Your unit can be from any scout council.

Q: We have 100 youth members in our unit and use multiple campsites – can we still participate and receive reimbursement?

A: Absolutely!  With that many youth, even a 1 hour conservation or service project will have a big impact on the camp – and we appreciate it.

Q: You’ve asked for a photo of our unit in camp.  How will it be used?

A:  We may use it on our website or Facebook page to promote the Lone Tree Beaver program, the work of the foundation, and your unit’s involvement in the stewardship of Lone Tree.  As a chartered partner with the BSA, LTSF abides by all Youth Protection guidelines and the Guide to Safe Scouting including those guidelines regarding social media.  All LTSF volunteers who run our social media are registered Scouters and Youth Protection trained.

Q: I have a question you haven’t answered here.  Who can I ask?

A: You can email lonetreebeaver@ltsf.org.  This mailbox is manned by volunteers so give a reasonable amount of time for a response.

HAPPY CAMPING!
